Eco-Friendly

By definition, a green data center is a repository for the storage, management, and dissemination of data in which the mechanical, lighting, electrical and computer systems are designed for maximum energy efficiency and minimum environmental impact.

Building and certifying a green data center can become expensive. By adopting an effective green approach towards IT, organizations can best manage their capital investment. Density Dynamics is a leader in helping organizations implement cost effective solutions that use less energy and reduce the overall carbon footprint.

In 2006, U.S. data centers consumed an estimated 61 billion kilowatt-hours of energy, which accounted for roughly 1.5% of the total electricity consumed in the U.S., up from 1.2% in 2005. The total cost of that energy consumption was $4.5 billion, which is the equivalent to the electricity consumption of about 5.8 million average U.S. households. If current trends continue, by 2011, data centers will consume 100 billion kilowatt-hours of energy, at an annual cost of $7.4 billion.

We believe that this number will continue to escalate unless corporations prioritize the issue ahead of any government intervention. Industry leaders are moving forward and have begun to recognize both the environmental and social responsibility of going green. Below is an example of just how much further along some are than others:

CEO 1 - 2007 Annual Report

"as part of our GREEN INITIATIVE, we are pioneering the use of fuel-efficient hybrid cars for our transportation services. We use recycled paper in our printers, have implemented paperless ticketing for travel, and offer recycle bins. Our cafeteria supplies – everything from cutlery and plates to cleaning supplies – are eco friendly. We are in the process of substituting eco-friendly alternatives in our office supply area and are arranging to implement double sided printing as a way to save paper."

CEO 2 - 2007 Annual Report

"we are a bank that measures our success not just in profits but in energy savings, gallons of clear water and breaths of fresh air. We are the greenest bank in the business and that means much more than paperless statements and online banking. It means having the most certified green buildings on Earth. It also means building with reclaimed and recycled materials that would have otherwise gone into a landfill. We are a company committed to lighting the path to a greener way of doing business."

While views both recognize the importance of going Green, CEO 2 articulates the bigger picture. At Density Dynamics, our design, development and manufacturing activities center on a philosophy of preserving and enhancing the environment.
